Anxiety affects you in ways other people don’t always see
You might recognise yourself in some of these.
You don’t have to figure everything out on your own.Talking it through with the same counsellor each week gives you somewhere steady to start.
Relief & hope now, then a deeper look at why
Our counsellors can help you find ways to manage anxiety day to day, while also exploring the experiences and patterns that may be feeding it.
At Hammock we take an integrative approach with a focus on psychodynamic therapy. This gives you space to understand yourself more deeply and work towards meaningful change, at your own pace.

A safe, no-judgement space
My counsellor helped me learn different tools and to calm my nervous system down – my flight and fight response – and gave me different tools to help deal with those different feelings which I now use everyday.
Hammock client
I really value my therapist – they’re so nice and really put me at ease. They’re empathetic and easy to talk to; I’m feeling good about it!
Hammock client
It felt like once a week I had a safe, no-judgement, mutual kind of place where I could completely and utterly say exactly what I wanted to and I would never be judged by them; they always just listened.
Hammock client
The assessment was great. The assessor made me feel really comfortable and they were insightful in what they reflected back; it really resonated with me and made a lot of sense.
Hammock client
As someone new to therapy, it was a brilliant and confidence boosting process and I am grateful for the care, clear professionalism and support.
Hammock client
I felt nervous going to book, but every element has been really smooth and easy; a super positive experience.

Is Hammock right for you?
Hammock is a good fit if you
- are 18 or over and live in the UK
- want weekly sessions rather than a short course
- are curious about what sits underneath the worry, not only how to cope this week
- can join sessions from a private, confidential space
We may not be the right service for
If you’re looking for a short, structured course of CBT, another service will suit you better. As our counsellors are in training, we may also not be able to support:
- severe trauma or severe eating disorders
- current psychosis or active suicidality
- personality disorders or active addictions
If we’re not the right fit, your assessor will point you towards support that is.
Questions about counselling for anxiety
How does counselling help with anxiety?
Two ways at once. You work on what helps day to day, the moments when your mind races or a situation feels too much. Alongside that, you look at where the anxiety comes from and what keeps it going, so the change holds rather than fading when life gets busy.
What is psychodynamic therapy?
It takes your history seriously. Whilst we can support you with today’s or this week’s challenges, you and your counsellor will also explore patterns: what keeps happening in your relationships, what you do when things get difficult, and where those responses were learned. Expanding self-awareness & understanding, brings more choice, control & hope.
How long will I need to come?
That’s yours to decide. The work is open-ended, so there’s no cap and no point at which you’re asked to leave. Some people stay with your counsellor for a few months, others for a year or more.
What does it cost?
The initial assessment is £36 and each weekly 50-minute session is £36. There’s no subscription, no package to buy and no minimum number of sessions.
Are your counsellors qualified?
Every Hammock counsellor is either a trainee member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), or the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), ensuring the highest professional and ethical standards in every session. They are all supported by clinical supervisors with at least three years’ experience. Your assessment is carried out by a qualified assessor.
Do I need a GP referral or a diagnosis?
No. You don’t need a diagnosis and you don’t need a referral. You book your assessment yourself and complete a short self-referral form beforehand.
Are sessions online or by phone?
Both are possible, but typically online. Sessions happen weekly, usually on the same day and time, and you’ll need a private space where you can talk freely.
What if I need to cancel?
Please let us know at least 48 hours in advance if you need to cancel or rearrange an appointment.
