Depth you can keep going with
Most services that are within reach financially are short and structured. Most open-ended, in-depth therapy is priced for people who can afford it indefinitely. Hammock sits between the two.
Open-ended, not a fixed course
There’s no set number of sessions to work through. You and your counsellor keep going while the work is useful, whether that’s a few months or a couple of years.
Psychodynamic, so it looks underneath
Rather than managing symptoms week to week, this way of working pays attention to patterns: what keeps repeating in your relationships and your choices, and where it comes from.
Advanced trainees, closely supervised
Your counsellor is completing their training and is a trainee, registered or accredited member of the BACP, working under supervisors with at least three years’ clinical experience. That, and working entirely online, is how the fee stays at £36.
Private psychodynamic therapy usually costs £70 to £100 or more a session. Over a year of weekly work, the difference is what decides whether you can finish properly or stop early.

A safe, no-judgement space
My counsellor helped me learn different tools and to calm my nervous system down – my flight and fight response – and gave me different tools to help deal with those different feelings which I now use everyday.

I really value my therapist – they’re so nice and really put me at ease. They’re empathetic and easy to talk to; I’m feeling good about it!
Hammock client
My counsellor has been amazing and it’s been so beneficial me doing this.
Hammock client
Thank you Hammock; I’ve really appreciated just talking to someone who’s neutral! I felt so understood from the beginning. The initial assessor and counsellor have been so lovely and generally just very human!
Hammock client
The assessment was great. The assessor made me feel really comfortable and they were insightful in what they reflected back; it really resonated with me and made a lot of sense.
Hammock client
As someone new to therapy, it was a brilliant and confidence boosting process and I am grateful for the care, clear professionalism and support.
Hammock client
It felt like once a week I had a safe, no-judgement, mutual kind of place where I could completely and utterly say exactly what I wanted to and I would never be judged by them; they always just listened.
Hammock client
I felt nervous going to book, but every element has been really smooth and easy; a super positive experience.

Is Hammock right for you?
Hammock is a good fit if you
- are 18 or over and live in the UK
- want ongoing weekly work rather than a short course
- are curious about why things keep repeating, not only how to cope this week
- can join sessions from a private, confidential space
We may not be the right service for
If you’re looking for a short, structured course of CBT, another service will suit you better. As our counsellors are in training, we may also not be able to support:
- severe trauma or severe eating disorders
- current psychosis or active suicidality
- personality disorders or active addictions
If we’re not the right fit, your assessor will point you towards support that is.
Questions before you start
What does it cost?
Your initial assessment is £36 and each weekly 50-minute session is £36, from 1 October 2026. There’s no subscription, no package to buy and no minimum number of sessions. Payment is taken when you book.
What is psychodynamic therapy?
It’s a way of working that takes your history seriously. Instead of focusing only on this week’s problem, you and your counsellor pay attention to patterns: what keeps happening in your relationships, what you do when things get difficult, and where those responses were learned. It tends to be slower than a short course of CBT, and it tends to go further.
How long do people stay?
That’s yours to decide. The work is open-ended, so there’s no cap and no point at which you’re asked to leave. Some people work with us for a few months, others for a year or more. You can end whenever you feel ready.
Why is it less than private practice?
Two reasons. Our counsellors are completing their training and give their time while they qualify, supported by an experienced clinical team. And we work entirely online, so there are no consulting rooms to rent. We pass that on rather than pricing at standard private rates.
Are your counsellors qualified?
Every counsellor is a trainee, registered or accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and is supported by clinical supervisors with at least three years’ experience. Your initial assessment is carried out by a qualified assessor.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can book your assessment yourself online and complete a short self-referral form before your appointment.
Are sessions online or by phone?
Both are possible. Sessions happen weekly, usually on the same day and time, and you’ll need a private space where you can talk freely.
How long will I wait to start?
After your assessment, we carefully match you with a counsellor, who will get in touch to introduce themselves and arrange your first session. Waiting times change through the year, and we’ll keep you updated along the way.
What if I need to cancel?
Please let us know at least 48 hours in advance if you need to cancel or rearrange an appointment.
